Treating musculoskeletal conditions: Integrating east and west

These three days focus on channel sinews, and integrating orthopedic testing and Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) in the systematic diagnosis and treatment  of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and are aimed at acupuncture and tuina practitioners.  The course is limited to 12 attendees per instructor. 

 

By the end of the course, you will: 

  • Be aware of how the Han dynasty doctor viewed the body both in health, injury and healing and how this compares with modern pathophysiology; 
  • Be aware of the differences between the Channel Collaterals and Channel Sinew meridians (Jing Luo and Jing Jin) and their use in musculoskeletal conditions; 
  • Be aware of the principle of “Releasing the Brakes” and how this can be incorporated into a systematic diagnosis of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions integrating both Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) and Western Medical (WM) paradigms; 
  • Be able to apply an integrated, systematic approach to arrive at a working diagnoses and treatment of MSK conditions integrating TEAM diagnosing and Western orthopedic testing methods; 
  • Be able to incorporate a variety of tools including ‘Pricking the Vessels”, Gua Sha, basic muscle stretching and exercises with existing treatment paradigms into an integrated treatment programme.
  • Be able to formulate a systematic, integrated diagnosis and treatment to a variety of conditions involving the upper body (neck, shoulders, upper back and extremities) and lower body (lower back, hips, pelvis and extremities). 

 

This course is modular in nature MSK I is a pre-requisite to attending MSK II and III. 

  • 27th January 2022. Day 1 MSK I.The systematic approach to treatment of all musculoskeletal conditions - via zoom
  • 9th March 2022. Day 2 MSK II.. Diagnosis and treatment methods of the upper body (neck shoulders and upper torso)  
  • 10th March 2022. Day 3 MSK III. Diagnosis and treatment methods of the lower body (lower back, pelvis and hips)  

Please be aware you will be required to wear a mask in the practical session regardless of exemptions on this course.

Alex Brazkiewicz is an acupuncturist, osteopath, tuina practitioner, martial artist and paramedic, currently practicing in Worcester. In 2009 Alex was invited to accompany Jason Robertson to China for a month-long intense study under his teacher Professor Wang Ju Yi, which he repeated in 2011 and 2013 with an internship at the Beijing Massage Hospital. This internship, spurred Alex to further his study in the treatment of MSK conditions and complete his degree in Osteopathy.
