Acupuncture and the treatment of sports and musculoskeletal injuries

Eligibility: Acupuncture graduates and 3rd year students in PQP

Venue: College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading

Kevin has been working in MSK and sports injuries for over 21 years with acupuncture & TCM.  He has a special interest in lower limb injuries using TCM and acupuncture for treating tendinopathies.  On this 2 day course he will talk extensively on his effective system and protocols of treatment.  Kevin will demonstrate the advanced needling techniques and adjacent therapies he uses everyday in his clinic and the sports environment.

The following subjects will be covered:

  • TCM sports medicine diagnosis & sports acupuncture principles
  • Channel testing
  • Treatment of specific injuries
  • Advanced needle techniques
  • Needle points & prescriptions
  • Plasters & balms for injury
  • TCM techniques used in the sports clinic
  • Red flags of MSK/sports medicine
  • Tuina techniques for sports injuries
  • Research in sports acupuncture



Kevin Young graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc (Hons) acupuncture and has a diploma in tuina and patent herbal medicine.  He is a HCPC, chartered physiotherapist and qualified in sports therapy and sports massage.  He has a MSc in lower limb musculo-skeletal studies from Cardiff Met University.

Kevin has worked extensively with sports teams, from American football to European and national champions.  He has been head physiotherapist to national division and county rugby for the last 22 years.  More recently he has also worked with professional boxers, Thai boxing and the MMA.
