An acupuncturist's guide to western medicines
Date(s): 04 July 2019
Time: 10am - 5pm
The aim of this seminar is to foster an understanding of the rationale for the medical treatments our patients receive. This will improve rapport, and help us to complement these treatments in the most beneficial and safe ways. •Explore the potential benefits and harms of some of the commonly prescribed medications including analgesics, blood pressure medications, statins, anti-diabetic medications and hormone based treatments •Explore approaches for interpreting the energetic effects of widely used medications •Offer practical guidance for working with patients taking western medication •Use case histories from general practice to illustrate what factors motivate doctors to prescribe medication for their patients
Clare Stephenson is a conventionally trained medical doctor and general practitioner who also has 10 years’ experience of working as a traditional acupuncturist. Clare developed a teaching course in conventional medicine whilst working as a lecturer at CICM, and this is now the basis of her textbook “The Acupuncturist’s Guide to Conventional Medicine”.
