Changing our dietary and eating habits can have a huge impact on our health and vitality. Advising our patients on appropriate changes can encourage and strengthen acupuncture and herbal treatment and empower patients to take an active role in their own recovery and wellbeing. This workshop explores how we can offer dietary advice in our practice without consuming valuable time. Topics for the day> Nutrition according to Elemental types Discussion of each Element and the syndrome presentations within the Element, outlining foods to avoid, beneficial foods and changes in eating habits. The information is presented as concise, easy-to-use handouts you can photocopy, tick as appropriate and give to your patients. There is a handout for each Element and handouts specific to pathogenic factors. The handouts are designed to give full and accurate information tailored to a specific patient in a time-efficient way. > Basic theory Yin and yang, five tastes and temperature and how they relate to food energetics, along with a thorough review of the digestive system and Chinese medical physiology. > Good eating habits The basic principles of good nutrition according to Chinese medicine including methods of cooking and preserving food. > The nature of food A discussion about each food type including its Chinese medical actions, Elemental affinities and energetics. The day will include a balanced seasonal lunch to delight your taste buds.
