Treating skin conditions using acupuncture alone can be difficult and is not a pratice normally encountered in China. Treatment can, however, be greatly enhanced when using special Chinese skin creams. In the Pi Fu Ke (skin) clinics in China, dermatologists consider observation is the key to good diagnosis, and it is just as important to treat the surface of the body with herbal creams as it is to treat the inside. We will spend the day together developing your understanding of acne, eczema, herpes, psoriasis, urticaria, dermatitis (seborrheic, contact and chemical), impetigo, hyperhydrosis, tinea (capitis corporis, pedis), neuro dermatitis, feruncles and carbuncles. By the end of the day you will be able to differentiate syndromes within disease categories, and have discussed appropriate acupuncture formulae, TCM diet and how and when to use the 22 Chinese herbal skin creams – all manufactured and available in the UK. Ken Lloyd is module leader for clinical practice and a clinical supervisor for the College’s Chinese herbal medicine MSc programme. He graduated from the International College of Oriental Medicine, East Grinstead in 1983 and went on to study at the School of Chinese Herbal Medicine. He received a certificate in Clinical Practice of Acupuncture from the International Acupuncture Training Centre in Nanjing in 1991, undergoing clinical training in herbal medicine in Nanjing in 1993 and subsequently in Kunming, Hangzhou and Chengdu. In 1994 he became a council member of the RCHM, and for a time he was its president. Ken helped set up the Immune Development Trust and worked at the London Lighthouse, treating those affected by HIV/AIDS.
