Learn how you can use your skills as an acupuncturist to support and empower women during pregnancy and childbirth with Sharon Yelland at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.

Pregnancy can be a very daunting business from both the woman's and the practitioner’s standpoint. Acupuncture can empower women to enjoy this special time and help them cope with their journey into motherhood. This day will explore the common problems that childbearing women face, unravel western management and treatment and provide guidance on acupuncture practice.

Topics for the day
• Nausea and vomiting
• Varicosities
• Haemorrhoids
• Symphisis pubis dysfunction (SPD)
• Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)
• Anaemia
• Oedema
• Abdominal pain
• Breech presentation
• Bleeding
• Pregnancy hormones and emotional changes
• Poor lactation
• Mastitis
• Home births
• Perineal pain post delivery

Sharon Yelland has worked as a community midwife/acupuncturist in Plymouth for 20 years and her favourite aspect of that work has been helping women deliver at home using acupuncture. Sharon is still employed in the NHS, is still a practising midwife as well as having a private acupuncture practice.
