Event description
Deepen your understanding of this diagnostic skill with John Hicks at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.
When we emotion test, we evoke the qi of an Element. This energy flow is observed and evaluated to be normal or abnormal. One basic secret is knowing what to look for – generally there is much too much to see! Verbal descriptions help, but visual video descriptions make it so much easier.
We will discuss the tests for each Element and then look at videos of patients showing abnormal and normal emotional expressions to refine our notion of what to look for. What is judged to be normal in everyday life can be grossly abnormal in the context of the flow of qi in the body – and this will be demonstrated on the videos.
John Hicks has been practising Chinese medicine since 1975. He is joint principal and co-founder of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. He created the acupuncture skills course in 1984 which taught the basic diagnostic skills of Five Element constitutional diagnosis and co-created the clinical integration course for practitioners wishing to combine Five Element and TCM skills. He is the author or co-author of The Principles of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Healing your Emotions (co-authored with Angela Hicks) and Five Element Constitutional Acupuncture (co-authored with Angela Hicks and Peter Mole).
