Event description
Peter Firebrace translates the subtle concepts of the wu shen into terms that are useful and helpful to us as practitioners, at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.
Deeply embedded in Chinese culture, the wu shen, the five spiritual aspects, shen, hun, po, yi and zhi can be difficult for us in the West to understand, as we have a different perspective on life and on the relationship between the seen and the unseen.
Working from ancient Daoist images and diagrams, and both medical and non-medical texts will help us to cross the East-West divide to comprehend these subtle concepts and translate them into terms that are useful and helpful for us as practitioners of Chinese medicine.
We will study their relationship with the mind and the emotions and acupuncture points will be presented that are helpful to restore health and balance in this important field.
Peter Firebrace studied acupuncture at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) in England, the European School of Acupuncture in France and the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chengdu, China. He has also studied Chinese language and philosophy with the Ricci Institute in Paris. Past principal of ICOM and co-author of A Guide to Acupuncture, he has produced educational DVDs on The Roots of Chinese Medicine and The Body Map of Chinese Medicine and a book of poems on Daoist and Chinese medical themes entitled Cloud Falls Rap. He teaches widely in Europe and practises acupuncture in London.
