Learn skills to diagnose and treat sports injuries during this two-day seminar with Kevin Young at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.

Kevin will be teaching the basic skills used to diagnose and treat sports and musclo-skeletal injuries, and the treatment of sports injuries using Chinese medicine modalities.

Topics for the day
  • How to assess different categories of muscle strains
  • How to differentiate haematomas and an outline of conventional treatment
  • How to rehabilitate muscle weakness with stretch, exercise and gym routines
  • First aid techniques for injuries > When to refer patients on to another medical practitioner
  • The examination of injured joints including the knee, shoulder girdle, the spine, ankle, elbow and wrist
  • The use of acupuncture techniques, such as thread needling, eagle claw, star fish formation, ah-shi points, electro-acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion
  • Tui na techniques used in sports teams, and when and where to use them
  • General exercises for wellbeing and their importance to sports personnel
  • Patent herbal remedies and balms for the treatment of bruising and injury

A prior basic grounding in western anatomy and physiology is needed to benefit fully from this course.

Kevin Young teaches anatomy and tui na. He graduated from University of Westminster with a BSc (Hons) TCM: Acupuncture. He is also a state registered and chartered physiotherapist, qualified in sports therapy and sports massage specialising in the treatment of sports injuries. He works with rugby players, professional boxers and practitioners of various martial arts, and previously with American footballers to national level. He is currently a trustee of the Arthritic Association.
