The key to effective acupuncture is proficient needling. This one-day refresher session will re-inspire your needle technique starting with standard needling basics as taught in China and moving on to practising some more advanced skills.

This session includes:
  • Point palpation and its relation to needling depth
  • The 'dose' question in acupuncture
  • Obtaining deqi
  • Types of deqi
  • Propagation of deqi
  • Advanced needle techniques
  • burning mountain fire needling
  • cool abyss needling

Time will be divided equally between a PowerPoint presentation of theory, demos and tutor-guided practical sessions.

Charlie Buck graduated in acupuncture from ICOM in the 80s after training in medical sciences and has practised in Chester since then. He self-studied Chinese herbs for several years and in 1988, after training with Ted Kaptchuk, became a member of the RCHM. Following a spell at the Shanghai College of TCM in 1990 he has worked at the Northern College of Acupuncture as postgraduate tutor, herb course director and senior lecturer on both the acupuncture and herb MScs. He was awarded RCHM Fellowship in 1998 in recognition of his contribution to CHM training in the UK. He is visiting lecturer and external examiner at Copenhagen’s Skolen for Akupunctur. In 2000 he was awarded an MSc for his thesis examining the scientific evaluation of TCM’s paradigms. He scores highly in student feedback both for his command of Chinese medicine and his lively, lucid style.
